The Monovarietal extra virgin olive oil Gentile di Chieti, oil campaign 2019/2020, produced by FattoriaItalana Martelli, was selected as one of the best olive oils on the national territory.
Gentile di Chieti is a variety of olives typical of Abruzzo and in particular native to the territory of Chieti.
Fattoria Italiana Martelli harvests the Gentile di Chieti olives at the beginning of October when the olives have just ripened; the olives are then taken to the mill where they are processed in order to obtain olive oil.
The olive oil is bottled as soon as it leaves the separator (machine that allows the separation of the oil from the vegetable water by means of centrifugation) and is stored in dark bottles, important to maintain the characteristics of the oil produced, which would otherwise undergo oxidative processes.
Our beekeeper Luigi has been awarded with two golden drops for his citrus honey during the contest TRE GOCCE D’ORO of the “GRANDI MIELI D’ITALIA” , ranking second in Italy for this category of honey.
1222 types of honey and 472 beekeepers participated in this contest with 18 panels of 66 experts called to judge them. It was the highest number of participants to ever participate in ths contest.
Behind this award there is a story of love, attention and passion for bees.
Honey production begins with the search for suitable fields to position the beehives. For our citrus honey, the beehives are transported to our own properties in the region of Basilicata.
At the end of the effloresence and once the bees have gathered the nectar, the honeycombs return to Abruzzo (where our head office is located) for the maturation of the honey while the other beehives are transported to other blossoming flowers.
